A young woman who was ecstatic over her sudden weight loss a few months ago discovered her body’s dramatic change was due to cancer.

Woman finds out her dramatic weight loss was due to cancer, not dieting

Jemma Doran, 28, decided to start dieting a year ago, and instantly started dropping dress sizes.

However her elation turned to despair recently after being told her sore throat was actually deadly tonsil cancer which has now spread to her lung, making it incurable.

Jemma, from Liverpool, from believes she would have been diagnosed earlier had the weight loss not coincided with her diet.

After a year of new clothes, and even a new man, Jemma now fears she will be dead by this time next year.

She said: ‘I have been told nothing more can be done for me and I might not be here this time next year.

‘It’s terrifying and I can’t help wondering if my cancer would have been detected earlier if I hadn’t been on the diet.’

Describing herself as ‘blissfully ignorant’ that the disease was growing inside her, Jemma said she ‘did not connect the pain in my throat to my weight loss’.

‘Perhaps if I had I might not be in this situation.’

The 5ft tall Jemma weighed 15 stone and 5 lbs a year ago, before her dramatic weight loss began.

She even went to a GP complaining of a sore throat and pain when she swallowed, but he suggested she had tonsillitis and prescribed her antibiotics.

Later an ENT specialist scheduled in a biopsy which confirmed fears that Jemma had tonsil cancer, despite never smoking and rarely drinking.

Jemma’s family have now set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for her to travel to either Mexico or Germany to receive treatment for the cancer.
