A California man will be spending the next year enjoying free pizza and wings thanks to his own good deed.
Mike Vegas told local ABC station KGO-TV he ordered pizza and wings from Domino’s but only had one slice of the pizza before he put the delivery in his refrigerator to eat later.
Vegas says he went to work and, though he was getting “random messages” on his cell phone, didn’t pay any attention to them.
When Vegas got home that morning, he pulled his Domino’s order from the refrigerator and realized what those messages had been about.
“About 5 a.m., I got home from work and went to my refrigerator and pulled out what I thought was wings,” Vegas told KGO. “It turned out to be 1,300 bucks.”
The Domino’s delivery driver started calling Vegas when he realized he left the cash -- divided into one pile of $666 and one pile of $632 -- in the box.
Vegas, who told KGO he worked as a pizza deliveryman as a teenager, said he took to Facebook with his quandary of what to do with the cash.
“I wrote a Facebook post and of course there's a long list of people arguing you should keep it, you shouldn't keep it, you should keep it, you shouldn't keep it" he said. "I wanted to keep it, believe me. But I can't, I can't do that."
In the end, Vegas returned the money to his local Domino’s, and was offered a delicious reward.
“Thank you so much for this, honest people are hard to find these days," the restaurant’s general manager, Zia Mumtaz, told Vegas. "Just to thank you, we're going to offer you free pizza for a whole year.”
“I'm going to have to start working out more, obviously," Vegas joked, in reply.
