Impeccable timing has led to a drone flyer capturing stunning footage of two whales swimming next to a paddle boarder off the coast of Esperance in Western Australia.
Jaimen Hudson, a local from Esperance, told Mashable Australia about the marvellous footage he managed to capture of two southern right whales getting up close and personal with the paddle boarder, his neighbour Dave Price.
"It just so happened that he was out at the time, and a few people let me know there were whales on the beach and it all just went from there," Hudson explained. "They were really curious and came over to meet [Dave] ... Just very inquisitive about him, I don't think it was really that dangerous at all."
He said he used a DJI Phantom 3 drone to capture the footage, which can fly up to 1.2 kilometres (0.7 miles) away from its controller.
Due to a motorbike accident, Hudson is a quadriplegic who has lost functionality in some of his limbs. Despite not being able to use his fingers, he is able to control the drone using his thumbs and partially use his shoulders.
The aspiring filmmaker, who has been sharing his whale drone videos on Instagram, said he's had an amazing response to the vision. "The reaction to this clip has been huge and I really enjoy doing it, so hopefully I can take it further one day," he said.
