The story occurred in Japan in 1925, but almost a century later it continues to shock animal lovers. This is how Hachiko became a kind of immortal being.
None knew Hachiko but almost everyone agreed that he was the most loyal dog in the world. His story is world famous. And no wonder, waited unsuccessfully for 9 years to his master at the same train station, every day. But how did they become so united?
In 1923, the daughter of a Japanese teacher convinced him to have a pet again at home. A little dog had died recently and because of the sadness, I did not want another animal at home.
Eisaburo Ueno, a professor in the department of agriculture at the University of Tokyo, gave him a small Akita who had been born on a farm in Odate. The dog was sent inside a box in the luggage wagon of a train for a trip that lasted for two days. When he finally reached his destination, they found him so still that they thought he was dead.
At home, the teacher tried something to check if he was still alive: he brought a cup of milk and it worked! Hachiko came out of his lethargy.
A unique relationship
When the daughter left her father's house to live with her husband, Ueno thought of giving the little dog, who already showed the deep affection that he professed. But he changed his mind when he realized that he too had grown fond.
Their relationship became increasingly close, to the point that Hachiko accompanied him every morning to the station where he took the train to go to his work and waited, always, at the end of each day.
This did not go unnoticed by the regulars to the station for whom this act became common.
But the reason everyone knows and why Hachiko went down in history began on May 21, 1925 when a cardiac arrest ended the life of the professor of agriculture. This one was in the university, reason why never returned in the old train.
Since every day until his death, hope waited for the arrival of who received it in his home it. Hachiko has his name by the deviation of its front paws that resembled the Japanese letter that serves to represent Hachi (eight) .

That day and after nine years of waiting, the dog died. When they did the necropsy for their later taxidermy, they did not find the causes of his death. But in 2011 they were determined: Hachiko died of terminal cancer and a worm infection.
The dog's body was dissected and stored in the Museum of Natural Sciences. Years later, they erected a bronze statue with their figure that became an attraction for own and tourists.
During the nine years that he was in the train station, the merchants were in charge to feed and to make less tortuous its waiting.

In 1987 the film Hachiko Monogatari, directed by Seijiro Koyama, premiered in Japan in which he narrated the life and death of the animal. In 2009 the American version was projected, carried out by Richard Gere and acclimated in Rhode Island, the United States.
We have presence in different programs. One of the most recorded in the chapter 'Jurassic Bark' of Futurama, in which Fry remembers Simurdiera, the dog that waited for him for 12 years at the door of the pizzeria where he worked.
