Good news for all Californian cycling/beer aficionados: On Sunday, California Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill allowing beer bikes to operate on city streets.
The bill (SB-530), was authored by Democratic California State Senator Richard Pan, and clears the hurdles that beer bike tours have faced in opening across the state.
Recently, beer bike tours have been popping up in cities across the Golden State from Sacramento to San Diego.
The tours are operated in pedicabs that can fit up to 15 consuming cyclists who power the pedicab across town. Under the leadership of a tour guide, the pedicabs often make stops at local bars and restaurants to give those pedaling a chance to refuel with their favorite adult beverages.
To celebrate signing the bill into effect, the 77-year-old Brown, joined by his wife, Anne Gust Brown, and their two dogs, took a beer bike ride through Sacramento. His office joined in the fun by Tweeting photos and videos of Brown enjoying the tour.
