If you're single and on the prowl, you probably would love to know what your chances are of scoring someone halfway decent in your town.
According to a new study done by Michigan State University, it was found that North Dakota actually was the shittiest place to date people in America. The reason? This state scored high on attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance.
One of the researchers, William Chopik, points out that neither is good for a relationship. Attachment anxiety is the fear that your partner will leave you, which often spurs "clinginess." Attachment avoidance, on the other hand, is when people fear intimacy and generally put a lot of distance between themselves and their partner. This might be out of fear of getting hurt but can totally ruin relationships.
The study was published in the Journal of Research in Personality and found that New York was also a pretty awful place for dating and ranked high in attachment anxiety.
The states that had the best luck with finding potential partners and happy relationships? That title goes to Mississippi, Utah, Wisconsin, and California.
Chopik points out that while New York reminds him of a place full of "the anxious Woody Allen type," California seems to fit the mold of "a romantic place with beautiful sunsets, oceans, and warm weather."
The reason Utah might have made the list? "Utah residents are known to be very nice, warm and generous, which many people attribute to the large Mormon population," said Chopik.
So if you're in the market for a new partner and want to have the best luck, you might want to book a one-way trip to the Pacific Coast region.
