This Monday October 9, 2017 the United Nations has withdrawn its personnel from two districts in southern Malawi. The reason for this decision is due to the "hunting of vampires" that have been undertaken by various settlers in the areas of Phalombe and Mulanje , and that at the moment they have left six dead.
Seven people suspected of drinking human blood were lynched by violent mobs in this southern African country.
The six people have been murdered on suspicion that they were vampires who were terrorizing the villagers, after this situation the authorities have decreed a curfew.
Due to the tension generated in this area after the blockade of roads and the organization of brigades to hunt the alleged vampires, the UN decided to temporarily evacuate its personnel who were collaborating in essential tasks such as health.
Malawi President Peter Mutharika said he will get to the bottom of this issue "and announced that he will personally visit the affected districts this weekend: Chiladzulu, Thyolo, Phalombe, Mulanje and Nsanje.
It's very sad that this is happening. (...) I ask people to stop exploiting problems for sensational purposes and not to take justice into their hands even if they believe that someone is involved, "he added.
